Calf Injury Delays Insigne’s Toronto FC Debut

Lorenzo Insigne opted to join Toronto in January to play for the MLS side after his Napoli contract’s expiration the following summer. However, he scored 11 goals in 32 games before moving to Canada. His long-awaiting transfer is reportedly delayed due to an injury.

Toronto FC’s boss, Bob Bradley, revealed that

Lorenzo Insigne

’s debut for new side Toronto FC has been put on hold due to a calf injury. Speaking after training on Wednesday, Bradley told reporters: “In the periods now where he’s been on the field there’s been discomfort and so he’s been taken off the field.

“My guess is that it is going to take a few weeks to get him ready,” he added. “I think a realistic target is going to be July 23. That’s not official. There’s always hope that things can move faster.”

Insigne scored 122 goals in 434 games for his

Napoli

spending 10 seasons as a Napoli first-team player. He also won Euro 2020 with Italy. With Napoli, he has twice won the Coppa Italia and clinched the Supercoppa in 2014.

At such a form, the idea that MLS was a step down for a player of his level might come to mind which the Italian shut down at his earlier conference being revealed as a

player.

When asked if he had been given any other options, Insigne said, "At that time, I didn't get any other offers." When I first met the president, it was very early, and I was still under contract with Napoli. I could have stayed in Europe. "I'm 31, so I still have a lot of life ahead of me, but I wanted to choose happiness and the well-being of my family.
