Conte frustrated after Tottenham failed to defeat 10-man Southampton

The Spurs boss and Eric Dier believe that in their 1-1 draw with 10-man Southampton, they only have themselves to blame.

Antonio Conte

was disappointed following

Tottenham

’s 1-1 draw with

Southampton

in the

Premier League

as his side did not make much of their numerical advantage.

They only gained one point at St Mary’s, where Harry Kane pulled the game level with a late penalty after James Ward-Prowse scored the opener for his side.

Spurs were playing against 10 men for the second half after Mohammed Salisu was sent off the field before the first half was finished.

However, notwithstanding having more possession and making 11 shots on target, Conte was frustrated when they didn’t grab all three points.

The draw that came two days after their 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace, helped Conte become the first Spurs boss to deliver seven unbeaten games since he took over of the club.

Despite all that, the ex-Chelsea and Inter boss was hoping for more.

"

We have to be disappointed because you have to exploit the situation against 10 men,"

he said.

"They defended very well. To find space, it wasn't easy.

"At the same time, we can do much better – to move the ball more quickly and find the one we want.

"To play after 48 hours is not easy because you need to recover from the last game.

"Maybe, the fatigue caused bad decisions, especially when we arrived in their box. It’s not easy to take a good result in this stadium. In the end, we could do better."

Eric Dier also insisted that his side Tottenham’s inability to defeat Saints had no excuses.

"

After they went down to 10 men, we've got to win the game and we couldn't do that,"

he added.

"They defended very well and fought for each other, but that doesn't matter from our side of it.

"We have to be able to break them down. We weren't good enough at doing that."
