Michail Antonio tests positive for covid-19

West Ham’s Michail Antonio has tested positive for Covid-19 and misses their Tottenham clash.

West Ham’s

31-year-old striker

Michail Antonio

missed their Carabao Cup clash against

Tottenham

in the quarter-finals, and

David Moyes

has talked about the matter explaining why he left the striker out during their important clash. Jarrod Bowen took Antonio’s place in David Moyes’ lineup as the manager had to draft in goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, Harrison Ashby, and Ben Johnson, like the other changes from the side, which lost 2-0 at Arsenal last week.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the Tottenham match, Moyes said:

"Michail Antonio tested positive about a week ago now, so we're getting him closer to being back. Obviously he's not available tonight."

The Hammers will host Southampton in the Premier League on Boxing Day, and then they will travel to Watford on December 28.

Despite the rise of Covid-19 cases among the players, the league has decided to keep the games on, meaning that the next fixtures of the league will not be postponed.

Despite the league’s decision, the EFL has already postponed some of the Boxing Day clashes across the Championship, League One, and League Two for the increase of the Covid-19 cases.
