Ottmar Hitzfeld "can't really understand" why Flick left Bayern Munich
Ottmar Hitzfeld, the former Bayern Munich manager, can't understand why Hansi Flick decided to leave the Bundesliga champs to take over as Germany coach.
Hansi Flick's choice to quit Bayern Munich to follow Joachim Löw as Germany boss after the Euros has perplexed Ottmar Hitzfeld.
"To be honest, I can't really understand it," said the former Bayern coach in an interview with Swiss newspaper Blick.
"For me, it's an inconceivable decision to go to the DFB when you're a successful coach at Bayern. He could have become an icon at Bayern for years."
In the summer of 2019, Flick joined Bayern as Niko Kovac's assistance; then, he took over as temporary head coach in November of the same year.
He won seven championships with the Bavarians, including two
Bundesligacrowns and the
Champions League.
