Alvarez included in Mexico squad but USMNT hopes for allegiance change

LA Galaxy midfielder is not going to be formally tied to El Tri notwithstanding being included in the senior squad for friendly clashes.

Efrain Alvarez

has been included in the Mexico squad for two friendly games this month while he is trying to prove his royalty to the national team.

The 18-year-old, who trained in

USMNT

camp last year, has to make a decision that may seem like “hell on and off the field” as he is courted by the North American opponents.

With featuring for

El Tri

against

Costa Rica

and

Wales

, rumors regarding a long-term decision might raise. However, the USMNT stays important to him.

The friendlies that the midfielder is about to play, do not limit a player to a specific country, which means he is not going to be a permanent member of the senior squad by playing for El Tri in the clashes against Costa Rica and Wales.

The formalities and what he intends to do are different subjects, but Alvarez is considering his options, based on reports from

SBI

.

If an under 21-year-old player doesn’t feature in more than three competitive games for a senior team, they can change their allegiances.

Although matches in the Gold Cup, Nations League or World Cup qualifiers are counted for the player, the exhibitions are not.
