Kimmich and Goretzka selected as german football ambassadors 2020
Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka were given the award as German Football Ambassadors of 2020 for the #WeKickCorona campaign they made earlier this year.
This award was presented to the two German internationals in May by a top panel of specialists led by editor-in-chief Rainer Holzschuh and including ex-coaches within the Germany national team, Horst Hrubesch and Berti Vogts.
The award ceremony was held this week at Säbener Straße. Coronavirus limits award ceremony at Federal Foreign Office.
Kimmich
emphasized after the award ceremony: “
It’s special to be rewarded for something that isn’t directly related to football and one’s own performance. We’re happy and grateful that we, on behalf of all those who have joined and entrusted us with their work, can continue providing help with #WeKickCorona even in this difficult period,
”
Roland Bischof, the founder of Deutscher Fußball Botschafter e.V. explained: “
We would’ve like to hand over the awards again this year with the German Foreign Minister, but coronavirus makes that impossible, unfortunately. I’d like to thank the worthy winners – they had the greatest understanding for our decision to improvise due to coronavirus,

Throughout their #WeKickCorona campaign,
Goretzka
and
Kimmich
have already saved over €5 million for social goals and helped 570 projects.
Both Bayern players have put out a strong message of social responsibility and have been honored by several sources for their service.
A couple of weeks ago, they got the “
Special Award for Exemplary Commitment to Overcoming the Coronavirus Pandemic
” as the 2020 Bavarian Sports Awards.
