Small details cost Madrid two points against Elche - Ancelotti

The Real Madrid boss was not pleased with how his side conceded two goals in the battle against Elche, but he praised how they came up from 2-0 down.

Carlo Ancelotti

believes "small details" were to blame in

Real Madrid

's 2-2 draw with

Elche

. The

La Liga

contenders could not extend their lead on top of the table to six points as they were held to a draw by their opponents that sit 15th in the table. They even took the lead at Santiago Bernabeu.

Luka Modric's penalty got them halfway to leveling the game, and Eder Militao came to the rescue with his stoppage-time header. The 24-year-old helped his side secure their year-long unbeaten home run in La Liga.

While Madrid were waiting to see the extent of Karim Benzema's injury, the tactician revealed that the manner in which Elche netted disappointed him. They scored two goals at Madrid for the first time since 1989.

However, the manager was delighted with the way his side responded, keeping their unbeaten tun against Elche since 1978.

"

They scored a goal with a centre. For the second goal, we could have been more compact,"

Ancelotti said.

"They are small details that have cost us two points.

"We are not happy, but there are many things we have to consider.

"We conceded two goals, and we reacted well. Usually, these games are lost, but it speaks very well of the squad."

After 11 days, Madrid will face Athletic Bilbao in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, 12 days before locking horns with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last 16.

"We have a small break, and we arrive well-positioned in all three competitions,"

Ancelotti added.

"That's what we wanted to do.

"We are there, now comes the most important period of the season."
