Artem Dovbyk Clinches the La Liga Golden Boot

Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk has stolen the spotlight from top stars by officially winning the Golden Boot award as the top scorer of the 2023/2024 La Liga season.

Dovbyk, who will also represent his country in Euro 2024 in Germany, led the race for the Golden Boot after scoring a hat-trick in his team’s 7-0 victory against Granada in the final round last Friday.

With this outstanding performance, Girona’s striker increased his goal tally to 24, surpassing Norwegian striker Alexander Sørloth of Villarreal, who scored 23 goals but lost the top spot due to an injury in the last match against Osasuna, which ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening.

English forward Jude Bellingham, a star at Real Madrid, was among Dovbyk’s main competitors for the Golden Boot with 19 goals. However, his team played to a goalless draw in the final round against Real Betis.

Bellingham is now tied with Polish striker Robert Lewandowski of Barcelona, who scored his nineteenth goal against Sevilla on Sunday. Lewandowski was the top scorer in La Liga last season (2023/2022).

On the other hand, Croatian striker Ante Budimir of Osasuna secured fifth place in the goal-scoring list with 17 goals. He is also part of the Croatian national team for Euro 2024.

The La Liga top scorer race also featured other prominent names, including Antoine Griezmann, the star of Atlético Madrid, who scored 16 goals. Griezmann was recently named the best French player abroad for the year 2024.

Griezmann is tied with Moroccan forward Youssef En-Nesyri of Sevilla, who also netted 16 goals. Following them closely are Brazilian winger Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid, Álvaro Morata of Atlético Madrid, and Borja Mayoral of Getafe, each with 15 goals to their name.
