Diego Simeone blames Antonio Rudiger for Correa’s red card

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has criticized Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger over Angel Correa’s red card in the derby.

Atletico Madrid

held the defending champions

Real Madrid

to a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on Saturday.

Jose Gimenez opened the scoring with a header from an Antoine Griezmann free kick in the 78th minute, but Alvaro Rodriguez equalized for Real Madrid with a header from a Luka Modric corner in the 85th minute.

Real Madrid is second in the La Liga table with 52 points, seven behind leaders Barcelona. Xavi’s side will face Almeria on Sunday and could extend their lead to 10 points. Atletico is fourth with 42 points.

Substitute Angel Correa got a straight red card in the 64th minute for an elbow to the chest of

Antonio Rudiger.

After the match, Diego Simeone criticized the referee for dismissing Correa and blamed Rudiger for his role in the referee’s decision.

“The contact is not a hit. Rüdiger is 1.94m”

, as per reports from Diario AS.

“A blow so brutal that he apparently had to sit down, but was quickly able to stand up.

“It could be a yellow, but if we send off a player for that, there would not be a player left on the field.”

Correa is set to miss the next three league games for Atletico.

Diego Simeone also equalled Luis Aragones as the manager with the most games in the history of Atletico in all competitions, with 612 games.
