Tottenham break the British transfer record as they sign Bethany England from Chelsea for £250,000

The North London side has signed the Blues’ striker on a three-year deal which breaks Lauren James' previous transfer fee record of £200,000.

Bethany England

has joined Tottenham Hotspur from Chelsea in a British record deal of £250,000 which broke the current record of Lauren James’ transfer from Manchester United to Chelsea in 2021 for £200,000.

The 28-year-old England will wear the number 19 at Spurs where she’ll be looking to have a more prominent role in order to get back into the England squad as she had lost her starting position at Chelsea.

England won 9 major trophies at

Chelsea

including 4 Women’s Super League title, 2 FA Cups and a League Cup trophy as she scored 74 goals in 164 appearances for the Blues. England’s best season was the 2019-20 season where she was awarded the Player of the Year both by the FA and the PFA as well as scoring 21 goals in 25 appearances.

In regards to her move, England wrote on her Twitter:

"My next chapter. I'm so excited to join Spurs Women.

"Buzzing to meet up with the girls and get started at this great club. Let's write some history together!"

Chelsea’s boss, Emma Hayes, also had some parting words about Bethany England, as she said:

"Beth has given tremendous service to the club. "She has contributed to all of our success over the past seven years and she leaves a winner and a Chelsea legend.

"We wish her the very best for the next stage of her career."

Bethany England joins a woeful

Tottenham

side who have lost their last 4 matches in WSL. They are also severely lacking in the attacking department, as 8 of their 11 goals this season so far has been scored in a single match with the other 3 in 8 matches.
