Sirigu makes a move to Napoli on a free transfer
The arrival of shot-stopper Salvatore Sirigu has been confirmed by Aurelio De Laurentiis, with the played having joined Napoli on a free transfer.
Salvatore Sirigu
became a free agent when his deal with
Genoaexpired last month, allowing him to look for a new side.
Napoliwere on the lookout for a goalkeeper when David Ospina departed the club and talks started with Sirigu, who agreed personal terms with the Serie A side.
According to De Laurentiis, the 35-year-old has now penned with Napoli, letting him join Luciano Spalletti’s side before the start of the Serie A season. As per reports from Sky Sports Italia, the player will earn about €700,000 net per season plus add-ons.
A €100,000 compensation clause was also included in case the Campania club decided to terminate the contract.
Sirigu will probably be a backup role for the Serie A side but there is a chance that he may be a regular player for the team due to Alex Meret’s situation. Spalletti would like Keylor Navas or Kepa Arrizabalaga more than the 25-year-old, but if they do not arrive, then Sirigu might take over.
