Chelsea’s return to the top

The story of a deserved victory over Brighton on a night full of excitement and challenges in the Premier League

Chelsea retained hope of reaching the European competitions next season, after achieving a deserved victory over Brighton with a score of 2-1, in a match that took place on Wednesday evening, and was a postponed match from round 34 in the Premier League.

Two goals were scored for Chelsea, the first by player Cole Palmer in the 34th minute, and the second by player Christopher Nkunku in the 64th minute, while Danny Welbeck scored Brighton’s only goal in the 90+7 minute.

With this victory, Chelsea’s score rose to 60 points in sixth place, three points behind the fifth-placed team Tottenham, while Brighton’s score froze at 48 points in tenth place.

In the beginning, Brighton almost surprised its guest by scoring an early goal in the tenth minute, where Adingra received the ball and shot it between the legs of his opponent Malo Gusto, but the ball hit the post and left.

In the 15th minute, the referee awarded a penalty in favor of Chelsea after Marc Cucurella was obstructed by Bounanotte, but he eventually reversed the decision after reviewing the video technology.

The rest of the first half did not witness dangerous movements on the goals, but in the 34th minute, Palmer took advantage of a cross pass from Cucurella to score the lead goal with a wonderful header.

In the 42nd minute, Chelsea star Michael Modric suffered a head injury, which prompted the coach to replace him with Frenchman Nkunku.

In stoppage time of the first half, Tariq Lamptey sent a strong cross from Brighton’s side, but Pedro’s ball hit the crossbar.

In the second half, Chelsea wasted a chance to equalize the score in the 54th minute, when Nicholas Jackson broke the offside trap but failed to pass to Nkunku who was free from surveillance.

In the 64th minute, Gusto succeeded in making his way from the right side and provided a wonderful pass for Nkunku to score the second goal for Chelsea with a smooth one-touch.

Later, the coach made substitutions where Raheem Sterling entered instead of Modric and Reece James instead of Gusto, while Danny Welbeck entered for Brighton.

Brighton’s goalkeeper obstructed Jackson outside the penalty area, which prompted the referee to award a free kick executed successfully by Sterling.

James was sent off for Chelsea after obstructing Pedro without a ball, which made the team play with ten players. In the 90+7 minute, Pedro succeeded in infiltrating from the left side and provided a decisive pass for Welbeck to score Brighton’s second goal.
