Dani Alves will be able to say goodbye to Barcelona with Pumas

Dani Alves, who used to play for Barcelona and is now with Pumas UNAM, will be back at Camp Nou next month when his new team plays for the Joan Gamper Trophy.

Dani Alves

is glad that one of his first games with

Pumas UNAM

will be at Camp Nou, where he can say goodbye to

Barcelona

fans for the last time.

The veteran left-back left Barcelona at the end of last season because the short-term contract he signed when he came back for a second time in January had run out. In the second half of last season, Brazil's Alves started 14 LaLiga games for Xavi's team, but the club didn't renew his contract for another year.

He will now continue his famous career in

Mexico

with Pumas. After teasing the high-profile signing for days, the club confirmed the 39-year-arrival old's on Saturday.

Alves is now expected to be on the Pumas team that plays Barca for the

Joan Gamper

Trophy on August 7. This is a strange turn of events. Barca was supposed to play Roma in the pre-season friendly, but Jose Mourinho's team pulled out, so Pumas took up the offer to play.

The defender had said before that he wasn't happy with how he left Camp Nou, but he has now said that he can understand why Barcelona did what they did.

"In the end, life is good to people who are good to live," he told TUDN News. "This game gives me the right to come to play with Pumas at Camp Nou to say goodbye."

"My time there was up. I didn't expect much more because I had only agreed to work there for six months, which I did. But now, with Pumas, I'll be able to say goodbye to people the way I've always wanted to."

Between his second start on January 5 and the end of the 2021-22 season, Alves scored one goal and set up four more. Only Ferran Torres (six), Jordi Alba (seven), and

Ousmane Dembele

(eleven) have scored more goals for Barcelona in that time. Even though Alves just turned 39, he made it clear that he wanted to find a new club quickly so that he could stay in Tite's plans for the 2022 World Cup.

When asked why he chose Mexico and the Pumas, Alves said: "I joined this club because of more than just the football. "I think that in Mexico, you should try to believe in their football a little bit more. People who make fun of Liga MX because they don't know much about it are wrong. We've played against some very good goalies at the Olympics. Only the Mexicans wanted to play us when we went with Barca to the Club World Cup."
