Official: Gotze signs for Eintracht and returns to the Bundesliga
The 30-year-old player is back in the Bundesliga after his second stint with Borussia Dortmund ended two years ago.
, who won the World Cup for
Germany
in 2014, is back in his home country after making a deal with
Eintracht Frankfurt. Gotze, who was 30 at the time, quit the Bundesliga in 2020 after a second disappointing season with his first club, Borussia Dortmund.
After moving from
PSV, he will now try to shine again in the top league. The club's website said, "Eintracht Frankfurt and Mario Gotze have agreed to a contract until 2025 as they continue to put together their team for next season."
"The 30-year-old made 77 appearances for PSV Eindhoven over the past two seasons, scoring 18 goals and setting up 18 others. He won the Dutch Super Cup in 2021 and the KNVB Cup in 2022."

, who is in charge of sports, said, "The fact that a player like Mario Gotze chose Eintracht Frankfurt over many other offers says a lot about the great reputation the club has built over the past few years."
"I don't have to say much about how good he is at football. We haven't had anyone like him before. Mario’s technical ability will help our game enormously, particularly when we’re in possession of deep-lying opponents.
"He can also show off his skills in almost any attacking position, which gives us even more tactical options. Last but not least, he brings many years of experience at the highest international level.” Gotze made himself a part of German football history when he scored in extra time against Argentina in the 2014 World Cup final. His goal gave Joachim Low's team a 1-0 win and their fourth World Cup title.
At the club level, however, the once-favorite player has had trouble living up to his undeniable talent. After bursting onto the scene as a teenager with Dortmund, the midfielder earned a move to rivals Bayern Munich, but did not live up to expectations and was shipped back to BVB in 2016 after just three seasons at the Allianz Arena.
Because of this, his impact at
Dortmundwas limited, and he only played in 15 league games in his last season before moving on to PSV in 2020.
