Diego Costa joins Atletico Mineiro on free transfer

The former Chelsea striker returns to football after spending eight months without a club.

terminated his contract with Atletico Madrid in December. The former Chelsea striker spent the last eight months without a club, but now he is set to return to Brazil to start a new chapter of his career.

announced

on Sunday that they have reached an agreement with Costa over a free transfer. The contract runs until December 2022, with Costa reinforcing an attacking line that already has Hulk, Eduardo Sasha, Chilean Eduardo Vargas, Venezuelan Jefferson Savarino, and Argentinian Ignacio Fernandez.

Costa rejoined Atletico Madrid from Chelsea on a three-and-a-half-year deal in January 2018. However, the Spain international left the club six months before the end of his contract. The former Chelsea striker won the Europa League and UEFA Super Cup titles in his second spell at Wanda Metropolitano, but he was not able to continue his career in European football.
