Postecoglou celebrates Champions League qualification and an extension

Ange Postecoglou’s contract with Yokohama F. Marios was extended after making it to the qualification zone for the last 16 of the Asian Champions League.

Leading the

Yokohama F. Marinos

to the

Asian Champions League

past the elimination round for the first time has rewarded the Australian coach with an extension deal with the club.

With a thumping 4-1 victory over Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors on Tuesday, the Japanese side booked a place in the last 16.

Ange’s side has one game to spare on Friday going against Sydney FC and they will secure their title on the table if they win.

Yokohama extended the ex-Socceroos coach’s contract right after the competition.

By sitting nineth on the

J1 League

table and losing all hope as it soon ends,

Postecoglou

’s side is putting all efforts into the Asian Champions League.

"

This is the tournament. While there are still many areas where we can grow as a team, it is important

," he said.

"

We haven't achieved anything yet. It is important to evolve steadily as the games continue

.

"

It's been a difficult season this year, but we still have something we can grasp and we want to keep fighting

."

Yokohama locked horns with Sydney back in February before the coronavirus pandemic hit and brought a thumping 4-0 victory home. They soon will go into battle with either China's Guangzhou Evergrande or South Korea's Suwon Bluewings.
