Johan Cruyff's Barcelona, with all their offensive attributes, could not open Pagliuca's goal in the regular time. It was only eight minutes left before the penalty shootouts that Ronald Koeman scored a goal from a free kick and Barcelona won their first triumph in the competition. After being runner up once again against Barcelona, coach Vujadin Boškov left Sampdoria.
