Real Madrid to sign Chiellini as Ramos’ replacement
As his contract with Juventus ended this summer, the Italy captain is yet to discuss a new deal with the Bianconeri. Playing an important role in Italy’s Euro-winning squad, the 36-year-old is not considering retirement and might be open to a new challenge in the coming weeks.
According to
Calciomercato.com, the new Los Blancos boss,
Carlo Ancelotti
, is looking at the veteran centre-back as a potential replacement for
Sergio Ramos
,
who joined PSG as a free agent after spending 16 years at Real Madrid.
With
Raphael Varane also on the verge of completing a move to Manchester United, Ancelotti is preparing for life after Ramos next season as his defensive options could be further reduced.
With
Georgio Chiellini
turning 37 before the start of the new season, both Juventus and Real Madrid are likely to offer the iconic defender a one-year deal.
However, his agent, Davide Lippi, says that there haven’t been any negotiations with either of the clubs.
“Giorgio went to the Euros and focused exclusively on that. There’s no problem with Juventus, we said we’d meet up later in the summer, but we haven’t yet sat down to discuss a renewal.”
“They’d have to make the offer first. As of today, there is nobody. We are waiting for Juventus to tell us when we can sit down and have a chat.”
