Fabrizio Romano: Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour to join Brighton permanently

Although the Blues choose to trigger Billy Gilmour’s one-year extension earlier in the summer, the youngster is on the verge of a permanent move to the Seagulls while the Blues are also offloading Ethan Ampadu to Spezia on loan.

The

Scotland

international spent the last season on loan at

Norwich

, where he impressed making 21 appearances. However, although

Thomas Tuchel

was eager to keep the youngster at

Chelsea

, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and Ruben Loftus-Cheek left no room for the Scottish midfielder as he is set to join

Brighton and Hove Albion

permanently.

Fabrizio Romano

confirmed the news on Twitter:

“Billy Gilmour will undergo medical with Brighton in the next few hours — Chelsea accepted the proposal, it’s a permanent deal.”

Meanwhile, Romano confirmed

Ethan Ampadu

will have another loan spell away from

Chelsea

, this time at

Spezia

. He made 29 Serie A appearances during his loan spell at

Venezia

last season. However, he couldn't help them avoid relegation from the Italian top flight as they ended at the bottom of the

Serie A

table.

Wales

qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1958 against the United States on November 21, and despite being a regular for Wales, Ethan Ampadu hopes to play a part there knowing that he needs regular game-time to guarantee a spot.

Romano added:

“Ampadu will fly to Italy soon so he will join Spezia on loan

.”
