Manchester City January Transfer Window of 2022: Live Updates

Manchester City has been one of the most exciting names in the transfer market. Let's see what the champions of the Premier League do in the January transfer window of 2022.

Pep Guardiola

is leading Manchester City towards his fourth league title with the club. Last season they won the title with 12 points more than the second team, Manchester United. City started the current season with a loss against Tottenham Hotspur. They got closer to the lead, week by week.

The last time Manchester City lost in the Premier League was in October when Crystal Palace defeated them at the Etihad Stadium. After that, the Citizens won 12 conservative games and reached the top position to defend their title.

It seems like everything is in perfect order at Manchester City and it's hard to improve on it, but Guardiola might not agree. The Spanish manager emphasized that their goal is to win all the possible trophies, but the FA Community Shield and EFL Cup have already slipped away.

Ferran Torres

has joined Barcelona on a five year deal. Barcelona will have to pay €55 million guaranteed plus €10 million in installments, and his release clause is €1 billion, according to Romano. Ferran Torres was supposed to be the replacement for Manchester City legend

David Silva

but his spell with the Citizens is over.

Just like Silva, Torres was signed from Valencia and Manchester City gave him Silva's 21 number. 2020-21 was his debut season and Ferran Torres played 24 Premier League matches and in the end, they won the title. The Spanish winger scored 7 goals for City including his hat-trick against Newcastle United. His first goal in that match was named Manchester City's goal of the season. Torres missed some fixtures because of injuries during 2021-22 and City is where a player always has serious competitors in the squad.

The 21 years old forward has made a total of 43 appearances and 16 goals for City since joining on a €23 million deal from Valencia. He has played for Spain's national team 22 times and has scored 12 goals. Torres scored his first hat-trick against Germany in a 6-0 home victory.

Julian Alvarez

Manchester City has signed an Argentine forward for the upcoming season. The best South American player of 2021 has signed a five and a half year long deal with Manchester City.

Julian Alvarez

's transfer to Manchester City was announced on 31 January 2022, which was his 22 birthday too. Alvarez was a River Plate academy player and he was promoted to the senior squad for the 2018-19 season.

Real Madrid and Boca Juniors were the other teams interested in Alvarez. He couldn't move to Real due to age restrictions. In his first three seasons, Alvarez had a total of 50 appearances and netted 12 goals in them. The prime season for the 22 years old forward was 2021. Making 37 caps for Argentine Primera División and scoring 19 goals made him the top scorer in the league. In 2021, Julian made a breakthrough at the international level, too. He was called up for the Argentina national team and won the 2021 Copa America.

At the end of the year, he was included in the South American Team of the Year. He was the only representative from Argentina in that squad. Despite many top teams inquiring about Alvarez, Manchester City managed to sign him up for £14 million. Citizens allowed him to stay with River Plate on loan until the end of the season. That way he can participate in the 2022 Copa Libertadores.
