Iraq defeats Saudi Arabia in the U23 Asian Cup

In an exceptional confrontation on the grounds of Khalifa bin Jassem Stadium, hosted by Doha in Qatar, sports fans witnessed exciting moments in a strong match that brought together the Iraqi Olympic team and its Saudi counterpart, characterized by a distinguished performance and exciting moments.

The match ended with the victory of the Iraqi team with a score of 2-1 over its Saudi counterpart in the third round of the group stage of the U23 Asian Cup. The Iraqi team managed to achieve the victory thanks to goals scored by Ali Jasim in the 45+1 minute from a penalty kick, and Mustafa Saadoun in the 63rd minute. While Ahmed Al-Ghamdi succeeded in scoring a goal for the Saudi team in the 45+10 minute from a penalty kick.

With this victory, the Iraqi team raised its score to 6 points at the top, after reaching the same number of points as the Saudi team, which ranks second. With this result, both teams qualified together to the quarter-finals of the championship.

The match witnessed exciting moments, where the Saudi team was about to score in the ninth minute, but the goal was canceled due to an offside situation. The coach of the Saudi team was shocked by the injury of one of his stars and had to make a change in the lineup.

In the first half, the referee awarded a penalty kick to the Iraqi team after a mistake from the Saudi goalkeeper, and the Iraqi team managed to score the goal. Despite the draw with a goal for each team at the end of the first half, the Iraqi team was able to advance in the second half and score the second goal.

On the other hand, the Iraqi goalkeeper gave a distinguished performance and succeeded in repelling several attempts by the Saudi team to realize the draw.

It is worth mentioning that the top three in the U23 Asian Cup will directly qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics, while the fourth place will play a playoff match to ensure qualification.
