Marcel Keuler’s stance on Shobeir and Kahraba

Shobeir’s brilliance and Kahraba’s return: Al-Ahly coach’s analysis and team prospects in the African Champions League journey

Marcel Keuler, the Swiss coach of Al-Ahly club, announced his position on goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir after his brilliant performance, in light of the possible return of the main goalkeeper Mahmoud El-Shenawy.

Al-Ahly achieved a clean goal victory over the Tanzanian team Young Africans in the match that took place on Friday evening, concluding the first stage of the group stage in the African Champions League. Al-Ahly qualified as the first place holder in its group, while Young Africans ranked second.

In the press conference after the match, Keuler stated: “Shobeir’s brilliance puts him as a main option after El-Shenawy’s return? It is too early to talk about this matter.”

The main goalkeeper El-Shenawy suffered a shoulder injury while participating with the Egyptian national team in the African Nations Championship last month, and needs a period of up to three months to recover.

For his part, the substitute goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir presented a distinguished performance in guarding Al-Ahly’s goal. Keuler explained: “El-Shenawy has just started light training and still needs time to return. Shobeir showed good performance, but we cannot forget El-Shenawy’s role not only on the field, but as a team leader, and I am sure he will return strongly.”

On the other hand, Keuler excluded player Mahmoud Abdel Moneim “Kahraba” from the squad for the third match in a row, confirming that he informed him of the importance of providing the best performance in training to ensure his place in the squad, especially in light of the brilliance of the duo Wissam Abu Ali and Modeste in recent matches.

Regarding the victory over Young Africans, Keuler said: “I saw that we performed well in the first half, but we lacked ferocity and focus. Between the halves, I spoke with the players and they succeeded in regaining courage and ferocity, and we were able to achieve the victory and the opponent only had one chance.”

He concluded his speech by congratulating the players on qualifying, confirming that he only focuses on each match according to its circumstances, without thinking about the next round at the present time, and stressing the importance of achieving victory without thinking about any record numbers.
