Crystal Palace Fans Distrusted Amidst Ownership Controversy

Ultras, Banners, and a Dismissive Response - Examining the Criticism Surrounding John Textor's 45% Stake in Crystal Palace

John Textor, who has held an approximately 45% stake in the Eagles since 2021, is facing criticism from Palace fans, evident in a banner displayed by supporters that reads, "Multi-club ownership. Stock market gambling. Textor, we don’t trust you." Textor, who also has partial ownership of French side Lyon, responded dismissively to the criticism. In an interview with BBC Sport, he expressed indifference to the banners and claims, stating, "They don't need to trust me, I'm not running the club."

Textor defended his role on the board, emphasizing the transparency of the club's operations as a US public company. He acknowledged meeting with fans outside Selhurst Park, where they questioned him about his ownership of Lyon and the political stance of ultras in Lyon. Textor emphasized his focus on the broader fan base, stating that he works for all fans, not just ultras.

Despite

Crystal Palace

establishing themselves as a mid-table Premier League side, fans are growing critical of Textor and other co-owners due to the team's proximity to the relegation zone and the success of rivals like Brighton on a smaller budget. Off-pitch protests may persist, while new manager Oliver Glasner aims to build on the team's recent 3-0 win over Burnley in their upcoming match against Tottenham.
