The Impact of Taher Mohamed Taher in Al Ahly

The player’s journey from a great promise to moments of crying and contemplation in his sports career

Taher Mohamed Taher, a player of Al Ahly Club, has recently sparked controversy due to his appearance in a state of crying during his participation in his team’s match against Baladiyat Al Mahalla in the framework of the Egyptian Premier League competitions, which ended with Al Ahly winning 5-1.

Taher appeared to be greatly affected by not participating in this match, while most of his teammates in the team presented an outstanding performance, where they scored and presented a great performance in creating goals. Despite his previous participation as a key player in Al Ahly’s squad under the supervision of coaches like Marcel Keeler, Taher failed to convince the fans of the distinguished level they were expecting when the club contracted him.

Taher’s transfer to Al Ahly took place in November 2020 after his distinguished performance with the Arab Contractors team, with the aim of strengthening the ranks of the red team. He was expected to be a substitute for Ramadan Sobhi who moved to Pyramids Club. Despite the excitement that surrounded his arrival and the support of the fans, his career did not witness the hoped-for development.

In terms of statistics, Taher participated in 133 matches with Al Ahly, during which he scored 15 goals and made 13, in a total playing time of 6420 minutes. The former coach, Pitso Mosimane, gave him the opportunity in 67 matches, where he scored 8 goals and made 6, while he participated in 57 matches under the supervision of the current coach Marcel Keeler, scored 4 goals and made 7.

In his comment on the scene of Taher’s crying, Said Moawad, a former Al Ahly star, pointed out that the club’s contract with him was a substitute for Ramadan Sobhi and everyone considered him one of the best players in Egypt. He added that his return to his previous level requires self-confidence and taking advantage of the opportunities he gets.

On the other hand, Hisham Hanafi, a former Al Ahly player, confirmed that the scene of Taher’s crying was very touching, indicating that he is a distinguished player but did not benefit from the opportunities he got in the past. Hassan Mustafa, a former Al Ahly player, explained that the competition in the club is difficult, and there are many alternatives in the same position, pointing to the importance of diligence and taking advantage of opportunities to achieve brilliance.
