Nunez on the Bench

Nunez raises questions about his readiness to play and his move from the bench

The 24-year-old South American player managed to train in the period preceding the Wembley match with his Premier League rival Chelsea, but he was not ready for Jurgen Klopp’s matchday plan. As a result, he was confined to sitting on the bench alongside the likes of Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, and Dominik Szoboszlai.

However, Nunez appeared in good physical condition after seeing Virgil van Dijk score Liverpool’s thrilling winning goal in extra time. He was quick to push his teammates aside as he ran quickly towards the pitch.

When Klopp learned of the active celebrations from those who were bruised, he told reporters: "Well, it’s clear that Darwin and Dom are not fit at the moment, and that’s why they didn’t play, but the celebration looked 100 percent. I have to talk about this with the medical department!

Nunez jokingly said on social media that he would never back down when he found Liverpool winning, saying: “I warned them that if we scored the goal, I would jump.” He did exactly that and bolstered his place among the Reds’ fans after showing an impressive passion for the collective cause.

Liverpool is currently facing a long list of injuries and hopes to have the likes of Nunez at their disposal soon - with a team still in contention for four titles this season preparing for the fifth round of the English FA Cup at home against Southampton. on Wednesday.
