The Red Devils’ Apathy After Defeat

Manchester United’s loss to Fulham dents the morale of Erik ten Hag’s players

The Red Devils played a secondary role against Fulham for most of the match and found themselves trailing in the 65th minute when Calvin Bassey scored a goal for the Cottagers. Although Erik ten Hag’s players managed to equalize in the 89th minute through Harry Maguire, they received a knockout blow when Alex Iwobi secured a late win for Fulham in the 97th minute.

According to The Guardian, after the defeat, some players went to the coaching staff and requested a day off, despite knowing that the post-match routine includes warm-up sessions and video analysis.

The players’ request for a day off raised eyebrows given the lackluster performance they had put on. The coaching staff immediately refused the request, reminding the players of their professional obligations, and it is believed that ten Hag was not aware of this unusual request.

Earlier in November, it was revealed that some players attributed the team’s poor start to the season to fatigue during pre-season training. They complained about not getting enough rest - especially during the busiest months - which left them tired even at the start of the season.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who owns a 27.7% stake in United through Ineos, is rebuilding the club. Major changes are underway, including the appointment of Omar Berrada as CEO and the potential appointment of Dan Ashworth from Newcastle to lead the football department, replacing John Murtough. Murtough is expected to be offered a new role, which he will take into consideration.
