Do Nkunku’s injuries affect his future?

The French striker is undergoing a medical evaluation at the club due to an unknown injury, and Pochettino confirmed that he may face a period of absence of up to a month.

Chelsea’s coach also admitted that the 26-year-old player is no longer the player he used to be at RB Leipzig. The Argentine coach told reporters: “We learned yesterday that Nkunku was injured but we don’t know when he was injured. We need to evaluate him every day but he will be absent for three or four weeks. We don’t hope more than that. It was difficult for him, we saw him when he arrived in the pre-season. He was flying on the training ground until he got injured. It has now been about eight months and he has participated again but he is not the same player he used to be. We have in our heads the amazing Nkunku from the pre-season but he is still so.” “He is not the same player because of the circumstances. And for this reason, it is sometimes unfair when we judge.”

Nkunku suffered a knee injury during the club’s pre-season tour, which forced him to miss the first half of the 2023-24 season. Upon his return to play, Nkunku scored his first goal for Chelsea in the match that the club lost 2-1 against Wolverhampton on December 24. He has participated in 10 matches in all competitions with the Blues so far, where he recorded 394 minutes on the field and scored two goals, with his last exit from the substitutes’ bench in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.

The Blues will then participate in the English FA Cup on Wednesday, where they are scheduled to face Leeds United in the fifth round match of the English FA Cup. It is certain that Nkunku will miss that confrontation and travel to Brentford in the English Premier League after three days, where Pochettino awaits the appropriate diagnosis of the striker’s latest injury.
