Dan Ashworth between United and Newcastle

After informing the club of his desire to leave to take on the role of the new sporting director in Manchester’s changing structure instead.

Darren Eales, the CEO of Newcastle, said in a statement: “We are naturally disappointed that Dan has chosen to leave, but our exciting journey does not stop and the process of appointing a new sporting director will begin immediately. We thank Dan for his efforts at Newcastle United and wish him and his family success in the future.”

The influence of Sir Jim Ratcliffe in Manchester United has been felt quickly since agreeing to a 25% investment deal with the Glazer family. Before contacting Ashworth, the team of the British billionaire from INEOS was influential in the deal to appoint Omar Berrada as CEO, a former official in charge of football operations at rival City Football Group. It is expected that the stronger structure will give Erik ten Hag the tools and support he needs to succeed on the pitch.

However, Manchester United still needs to settle matters with Newcastle regarding the official acquisition of the former player, who is 52 years old, with claims that a compensation request of 20 million pounds has been rejected by those at Old Trafford, which could pose a major problem in getting the deal done.

It’s just a waiting game now for Ashworth as he must serve his notice period with Newcastle, who do not want him to be privy to their internal dealings and transactions knowing that he will join a rival club as soon as his notice ends.
