A Complicated Fate for West Ham Player After His Expulsion

Player Phillips faces tough challenges after his declining performance and suspension in the match against Brentford.

The 28-year-old player was expelled after quickly receiving two yellow cards in the Hammers match that ended with their 2-0 loss against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Dean, who has become an analyst in his new role as an analyst on the “Soccer Saturday” program on Sky Sports, was harsh in describing the incident.

Dean stated in astonishment: “He just got warned because of his involvement with [Nicholas] Dominguez for no reason. Then just two minutes later, he lifted the ball over [Morgan] Gibbs-White and hit his foot. Stupid, your second yellow card. He’s just wasting his time playing, he doesn’t even seem interested in my view.” Hammers fans expressed their annoyance on social media, where one disgruntled fan asked if Phillips’ transfer could be canceled.

It was a tough start for the life of the English midfielder in East London, who most observers considered a useful winter signing for David Moyes’ team when he left Manchester City to get regular playing time. But the mistakes in his first participation in the last two rounds, the resounding defeat last week at the hands of Arsenal, and the expulsion now mean that Phillips’ hopes of reconsidering the performance that made him a key player for England.

The suspended Phillips will have to be absent when West Ham tries to end their winless start to the year when they cross the capital to face Brentford on Monday, February 26.
