City's Absentees and Injury Update

Guardiola Provides Updates on Key Players as City Prepares for Showdown at the Etihad

In the upcoming Saturday evening clash against Chelsea at the Etihad, Manchester

City

manager Pep Guardiola has provided updates on player availability. Jack Grealish, who suffered a foot injury during the midweek match against FC Copenhagen, will be unavailable for the game. Bernardo Silva, who was substituted in the second half due to a knock, is set to undergo a late fitness test to determine his participation. Guardiola mentioned that Mateo Kovacic and Sergio Gomez are back in training, but defender Gvardiol is not yet ready to make a return, having been sidelined for "two or three weeks" with an ankle ligament issue.

Guardiola, addressing reporters on Friday, expressed uncertainty about Grealish's condition and stated that the player is not expected to be ready for the Chelsea match. Silva's availability will be assessed in the afternoon training session. The absence of Silva, a key contributor with eight goals and four assists this season, would be a significant setback for City. However, Guardiola remains optimistic, with Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne returning from injury. Regardless, City has demonstrated resilience in coping without key players, and Guardiola hopes Silva might be available for the subsequent matches against Brentford and Bournemouth if he doesn't recover in time for the Chelsea clash.
