Luis Suárez Bids Farewell to Grêmio: Health Challenges and Uncertain Future

Experienced Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez has played his final match for Brazil's Grêmio and is now set to become a free agent.

. While initial expectations were for the 36-year-old star to join his former Barcelona teammate Messi in Florida, Suárez hinted that persistent fitness issues might force him into retirement, citing continuous pain.

In an interview with Radio Sport 890, Suárez opened up about the difficulty of playing on the field, stating, "Outside of my knee, I have constant pain remaining after the surgery I underwent in 2020 when I was at Barcelona. In my recent recovery phase, the pandemic came, and I had to exercise alone and couldn't complete knee exercises. Internally, I have a meniscus issue that collides with the bone. Before every game, I take three painkillers, and hours after playing, I receive an injection. If I don't do that, I can't play. Everyone who sees me thinks it's impossible for me to play a match. My son asks me to play with him, and I can't."

Inter Miami announced the termination of the contract of Venezuelan international player Josef Martínez, leaving them in need of another player in Tata Martino's lineup. This situation could provide Messi, who aims for more significant achievements in 2024, the opportunity to add another familiar face to join him in the United States. Suárez's uncertain future raises questions about his next move and whether health concerns will ultimately lead him to retire from professional football.
