Iraqi Air Force's Quest in the AFC Champions League

The Iraqi Air Force aims to conclude its group stage journey in the AFC Champions League successfully, as preparations are underway at the Franso Hariri Stadium in Erbil for the upcoming encounter with Uzbekistan's AGMK on the following Monday.

Having lost the opportunity to advance to the second round after a tough defeat against Iran's Sepahan Isfahan (0-1), the sole Iraqi representative occupies the third position with seven points, bidding an early farewell to the tournament. Nevertheless, the Iraqi Air Force retains goals to achieve in the next match, seeking its third victory in the group stage for a more substantial presence in the AFC Champions League.

Coach Ayoub Odisho expresses hope for the recovery of some key players' form after recent declines attributed to local match fatigue and the repetitive travels with the Iraqi national team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, involving destinations like Basra, Hanoi, Kut, and Erbil, the site of the upcoming match.

Odisho also aims to address mistakes, such as those involving prominent players like goalkeeper Mohammed Hameed, who shared responsibility for Sepahan's goal with defender Hamoudi Mushan. Striker Mohannad Abdul-Raheem, experiencing a recent dip in focus, is expected to regain scoring form to satisfy the Iraqi Air Force's fan base.

Rising star Ali Jassim stands out as the top scorer for the Iraqi Air Force in Asian competitions, having scored four goals so far. He holds the capability to increase his tally in the upcoming match against AGMK, contributing to the team's aspirations.
