Departure of André Santos: Chelsea's Option to Recall Their Player in January

Midfielder André Santos has been loaned to Nottingham Forest for the entire season, but Chelsea retains the option to recall him in January due to a clause in the deal.

According to a report from The Athletic, Chelsea will activate their recall clause, while Forest will bear mutually agreed financial penalties for not utilizing the 19-year-old player despite his readiness.

Santos has played only one match in the Premier League, coming off the bench for less than 10 minutes in the 3-0 defeat against Liverpool at the end of October. Chelsea will recall him from Forest, but it is likely that he will be loaned again, with Strasbourg – who shares the same ownership – expressing interest in taking him for the rest of the season.

The Brazilian agreed to join Chelsea in January of this year but was loaned again to Vasco da Gama until the end of the 2022-2023 season. He has not yet played an official match with the Blues, having been loaned to Forest in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea would need to cancel one of their other loan deals if they intend to send Santos to Strasbourg or any other foreign team. The team in the Premier League already has seven players playing on loan outside of England for the rest of the season, which is the maximum allowed for international loans by the club.
