Sharjah Emirates Faces a Defeat Against Qatar's Al-Sadd

Sharjah Emirates lost their match against the visiting Al-Sadd from Qatar with a score of (0-2) at the Sharjah Stadium in the evening, within the events of the fifth round of the AFC Champions League for the 2023-2024 season.

The determination of the teams qualifying for the Round of 16 has been postponed to the last round, as Nasaf from Uzbekistan secured a victory today against Al-Faisaly from Jordan with a score of (3-1) at the Central Stadium in Qurshi.

Nasaf tops the group with 10 points, two points ahead of Sharjah, three points ahead of Al-Sadd in third place, and seven points ahead of Al-Faisaly, who bid farewell to the competition.

Al-Sadd scored their first goal in the 9th minute, thanks to a powerful shot by Akram Afif. Although Sharjah's goalkeeper, Droush Mohammed, made a good save, Gonzalo Plata excellently capitalized on the rebound and scored.

Sharjah did not show a strong reaction, while Al-Sadd demonstrated better performance in their counter-attacks. However, the score remained unchanged throughout the first half.

Baghdad Bounedjah increased Al-Sadd's lead with a powerful header in the 60th minute, amid protests from Sharjah players who believed the ball had crossed the goal line. However, the referee confirmed the validity of the goal, dismissing the objections.

In the final minutes, Sharjah attempted a comeback after the referee announced 8 minutes of added time, but the Emirati team failed to pose any threat to Al-Sadd's goal. Al-Sadd secured an important win that revived their hopes of qualifying for the Round of 16 in the Asian tournament.

The decision on qualification is postponed to the sixth (final) round of group stage matches, scheduled for December 4th, where Al-Faisaly will face Sharjah in Oman, and Al-Sadd will meet Nasaf in Doha.

The team finishing first in each group, along with three other teams finishing second in their respective groups, will qualify for the Round of 16 in the West region.
