Erling Haaland withdraws from Norway squad with groin injury

Manchester City star Erling Haaland has pulled out of Norway's squad after picking up a groin problem.

Norway confirmed on Tuesday that Haaland will miss their opening two Euro 2024 qualifiers away to both Spain and Georgia due to a groin injury.

Haaland has scored 42 goals in just 37 appearances during his first season in English football. He has scored eight goals in his past two appearances for Man City.

A statement from the Norway FA read:

"Erling Braut Haaland had some pain in his groin after the match against Burnley. Haaland thus travels home from the national team meeting."

Team doctor Ola Sand told the Norwegian Football Federation's website:

"We hoped that this would carry over to Saturday but after doing tests and examinations yesterday it became clear that he will not make it to the games against Spain and Georgia.

"It is better that he receives medical follow-up at the club."

Norway boss Stale Solbakken added:

"Erling took it hard when he realised that he could not fight for the team.

"Fortunately, there is still plenty of self-confidence, talent and cohesion in this group to win points in the next matches.”

Manchester City will face Liverpool in the Premier League on April 1. They also play with Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final in April.
