Newcastle set to battle Manchester United in the race to sign wonderkid Arthur Vermeeren

Manchester United is interested in signing midfielder Arthur Vermeeren ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail,

Manchester United

is interested in

Arthur Vermeeren

, but

Newcastle

and other Premier League clubs are tracking him too.

The 18-year-old central midfielder made his professional debut for the Belgian side Royal Antwerp last August and since then, has played in another 10 matches.

He recently signed a new contract that will keep him at Antwerp until 2026. The Daily Mail claims that the Belgian midfielder would cost in the region of £20 million.

Antwerp manager Mark van Bommel recently called Vermeeren a special talent.

He told Nieuwsblad:

“The whole club is very happy with Arthur. I already knew at the first training that he would make minutes. He is doing well, playing top matches every week. His development is going well.

“(A senior call-up) is a question for the new national coach. You know, I think he is capable of playing (at that level), he wouldn’t look out of place in the least. Things can go fast for him, but we shouldn’t put any pressure on him. I’m not saying he should be there. But it is possible.

“Arthur has so far adapted smoothly to every step up. He has a down-to-earth family, doesn’t do crazy things himself. That is already special.”
