Chicago Fire wonderkid Jhon Duran joins Aston Villa for £15m

The Villains beat Liverpool to signing Colombian teenager Jhon Duran from MLS

Despite interest from a number of Premier League clubs including Liverpool, Aston Villa has managed to sign the 19-year-old Colombian striker

Jhon Duran

from the MLS side Chicago Fire for a reported £15 million ($18m) deal.

Though he is only 19, Duran has already broken some records including being the youngest player to score in the Colombian top-flight when he was only 15 years old as well as being the most expensive foreign signing in MLS history when he joined Chicago Fire from Envigado in January of 2021.

Liverpool and Chelsea were previously interested in the striker but

Aston Villa

has now won the race to sign the teenage sensation. The club has released an official statement, which reads:

“Aston Villa can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Chicago Fire for the permanent transfer of 19-year-old striker, Jhon Duran. The deal is subject to the player passing a medical, agreeing personal terms and obtaining the necessary work visa.”

Duran has played as a winger in the past but now mainly operates as a striker. His physique and style of play has been compared to that of Lukaku which could definitely come handy in Unai Emery’s Villa.
