Ten Hag calls Rashford’s goal the “right answer” after being benched for disciplinary reasons

Marcus Rashford came off the bench and scored Man United’s only goal to put his pre-match issues to rest.

Erik ten Hag claims that Marcus Rashford’s winner against Wolves was the “right answer” after the English striker was benched due to being late for the pre-match meeting.

Ahead of the game, Marcus Rashford was left out of United’s squad with Ten Hag claiming that it was because of

“internal disciplinary” reasons

. Rashford himself has now revealed that it was because he overslept and missed United’s routine pre-match meeting.

Rashford responded to being benched by coming on in the second half and scoring for

Manchester United

which made ten Hag happy.

"It's good after the decision," Ten Hag told BT Sport. "Rashford came in. He was bright, he was lively and he scored a goal to give a good reaction. Everyone has to adhere to the rules and if you react like this, it is the right answer."

Ten Hag feels that his side were lacking in the first half but they improved a lot in the second which eventually got them over the line.

"We were not that good in the first half.”

He added.

"In my opinion, the second half was better. Fred was winning second balls and linking play when he came on.

"In the first half, you analyze the game but sometimes things do not work as expected. Wolves did not create many chances and we did but you have to be sharp.

"I was not happy at half time and I told them with this attitude they will not win this game and everyone had to give 10 per cent more."
