Three La Liga clubs in the running to sign Nicolas Otamendi

Three La Liga clubs are interested in the signing of Nicolas Otamendi on a free transfer.

 currently plays for 

Benfica

 but he will be a free agent at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Portuguese newspaper, A Bola claims that three La Liga clubs including Atletico Madrid are interested in Otamendi. Sevilla’s manager Jorge Sampaoli is also pushing them to sign Otamendi in the summer. Real Betis who is fighting to qualify for the Champions League also is looking to sign an experienced defender and Otamendi is one of their options.

The 34-year-old Otamendi who has played in 100 matches for

Argentina

 was part of the squad that won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Otamendi played in all seven games for Argentina in Qatar.

Otamendi who has played for Vélez Sarsfield, Porto, and Valencia joined Manchester City in 2015. He won two Premier League, one Fa Cup, and 4 League Cups with the English club and joined Benfica in 2020 for a €15 million fee. 

Otamendi who also won the Copa America with Argentina last year has made 23 appearances for Benfica this season. Benfica is at top of the Primeira Liga table and has reached the last 16 round of the Champions League.
