Belgium eliminated from World Cup after goalless draw with Croatia

Croatia advance to the World Cup round of 16 after a goalless draw against Belgium on Thursday.

to progress past the group stages but failed to find the back of the net and was knocked out of the

World Cup.

Croatia finished in second place after Morocco in Group F with five points. They will face Group E winners in the round of the last 16.

Ivan Perisic could score inside the opening 20 seconds but blazed his shot over the bar.

Croatia won a penalty in the 15th minute after Andrej Kramaric was fouled inside the area but the referee changed his mind for an offside in the buildup.

The two sides were restricted to efforts from distance, The best chance of the first half was for Dries Mertens in the 13th minute through a counterattack but the forward sent his striker over the bar.

Lukaku was brought on in the second half and missed a big chance in the 60th minute. Juranovic blocked Carrasco's effort and Lukaku pounced on the rebound but his strike hit the inside of the post and went wide. Lukaku just two minutes later has another big chance but this time his header from De Bruyne's cross went over the bar.

Meunier latched on to a loose ball in the Croatia box and steered it toward the goal. Lukaku once again touched the ball in front of the goal but his effort went just past the right post. Croatia's defender failed to clear the ball in the box but once again ball touched Lukaku's chest in front of the goal and the goalkeeper managed to keep it out of the line.
