France submit complaint to FIFA over disallowed Griezmann goal

France has submitted a complaint to FIFA after a last-gasp equaliser by Antoine Griezmann was disallowed.

The French football federation has announced that they have submitted a complaint to FIFA after the late Antoine Griezmann's equaliser against

on Wednesday was ruled out following a video review.

"We are writing a complaint after Antoine Griezmann's goal was, in our opinion, wrongly disallowed. This complaint has to be filed within 24 hours after the final whistle,"

the FFF said in a statement.

Griezmann equalised in the 98th minute but the goal was ruled out as he was offside when Aurelien Tchouameni crossed the ball into the area.

argues that play had already restarted for 40 seconds following Griezmann's goal and according to the rules, VAR checks after that point are not allowed. The rule states:

“If play has stopped and been restarted, the referee may not undertake a ‘review’ except for a case of mistaken identity or for a potential sending-off offence relating to violent conduct, spitting, biting or extremely offensive, insulting and/or abusive action(s).”

France won group D with 6 points despite a defeat against Tunisia and will face Poland in the last 16. Australia also claimed second place with a 1-0 win against Denmark and will face Argentina in the next round.

If FIFA accepts France’s request, the final points tallies will change in group D but the final places would not change.

France’s unbeaten record at the

World Cup

came to end after nine games against Tunisia. The last time they lost was in the quarter-finals in 2014.
