England announces 26-man squad for 2022 FIFA World Cup

England has announced its 26-man squad for the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar. England reached the semi-final in the 2018 World Cup but lost against Croatia.

England manager Gareth Southgate announced his final squad for the

World Cup

in Qatar on Thursday and Leicester City star James Maddison is the surprise inclusion in the squad.

Marcus Rashford and Conor Gallagher also have been invited. Manchester City players, Kalvin Phillips and Kyle Walker both have been injured in recent weeks, but Southgate has decided to put them in the squad.

Tammy Abraham, Jadon Sancho, Fikayo Tomori, Joe Gomez, Jarod Bowen, Ivan Toney, Marc Guehi, and James Ward-Prows are all left out. Reece James missed the World Cup due to an injury.

England

is in Group B with the

United States

, Wales, and Iran. They will play Iran in their first game on November 21.
