Angry Xavi accused referee after VAR handball controversy

Barcelona lost three points against Inter Milan last night and the Spanish coach believed that the referee had an impact on the outcome of the game.

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez called his team's defeat against Inter unfair and said the referee should explain his controversial decisions.

Barcelona and Inter met last night in the third week of the Champions League, and Nerazzuri managed to overcome their opponent with a 1-0 victory. The first important scene of the game was when the ball hit Eric Garcia's hand in the Barca penalty area, and after reviewing the scene with the help of VAR, the referee announced that it was an offside position before that. Inter then scored a goal by Hakan Calhanoglu in the 45+2 minute.

Pedri opened Inter's goal in the 67th minute, but the assistant video referee was again the effective factor in this scene and announced that Ansu Fati committed a hand foul before the goal.

But Xavi, who was very angry with the referee's decisions, criticized his performance. He said:

"I'm p*ssed off about it. We don't understand anything. If there's a hand from Ansu and another scores it's a goal, and they disallow it. And the other can't be understood. It's an injustice, the referees should explain because we don't understand."

With six points, Inter is in second place in Group C and Barcelona is third with three points. Bayern Munich is the leader of this group with 9 points.

Barcelona is now in the third place of its group by gaining three points and is 3 points away from the second place Inter and 6 points away from the leader Bayern. They failed to advance from the group stage last season and advanced to the Europa League, and it seems that a similar fate awaits them if they fail to achieve better results in the group stage.
