Romeu: Barca might sign Lionel Messi back next year
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain is due to reach its end next year and he may depart the club on a free transfer.
Eduard Romeu
, the
Barcelonaeconomic vice president, is confident that the Catalans are able to resign
Lionel Messi
next year. The Argentina international’s deal with
Paris Saint-Germainis due to expire next year at the end of the season and he will decide what to do with his future after the 2022 World Cup.
If the 35-year-old become a free agent, many of the clubs around the world will be keen on getting his signature and according to Romeu, Barca are able to afford a contract for the talisman.
"As it would be on a free, surely it is something that we can do. But it'd be a technical decision, anyways,"
he told
Mundo Deportivo
.
Although there would not be a fee required should his deal reach its end, his wages are going to be significantly high. He played for Barcelona for 21 years, meeting the target 672 times in 778 matches, before making a move to PSG last year as a free agent. Barcelona invested in the transfer market this year and there might be more signings in January.
"There is margin but we have made a very important effort this summer and if any complement was needed, we would have to study it,"
he added.
