Karim Benzema set to be out for a month with injury

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is expected to be out for a month with an injury.

Karim Benzema

was forced to leave the pitch during Real Madrid's Champions League Group F opener against Celtic on Tuesday.

Real Madrid

has confirmed that the Frenchman has a quad injury.

At first, there were fears that Benzema would be out for a long time but it seems his injury is not serious. He is reportedly set to be out for around a month.

A statement on Madrid's website read:

"Benzema has been diagnosed with an injury to the semitendinosus muscle and an overload on the quadriceps, both in the right thigh.”

Carlo Ancelotti in his press conference after the game said:

“Yes, it doesn’t seem worrisome, but we have to wait for tomorrow’s tests. "The first scan doesn’t seem like anything very serious, but we have to wait until tomorrow. It’s still not known if it’s muscular. It’s not clear. That’s why we have to wait for tomorrow.”

The 34-year-old Benzema is set to miss games against Real Mallorca, and RB Leipzig in the Champions League, and is likely to miss the Madrid derby against Atletico Madrid on September 18.

Benzema has scored four goals in six matches this season.
