open the scoring in a torrid first half for United that saw them ship three further goals to Thomas Frank's side. 

Following the blunder, United fans took to social media to show their disdain for De Gea's performance and the mistake that became the catalyst for the Red Devils' first-half meltdown.

"It's to take my responsibility today. I think I cost 3 points to my team today." David De Gea asked to do the Manchester United players' post-match interview and says he cost the team 3 points today." 

"I think so; that can happen. A mistake like I made." David De Gea says the result would have probably been different if he saved the first goal against Brentford.

"I should have read better today." David De Gea says he didn't read the game correctly for the second Brentford goal and should have gone long.
