EA Sports names LaLiga de España
Electronic Arts will become the main sponsor of La Liga.
This season,
La Liga
will no longer be called "LaLiga Santander" because sponsor Santander has left the league.
The league used to get about €17 million a year from the Spanish bank Santander for the right to use its name. However, Sport and Marca say that the league has made a deal with
EA Sports
for the next five years.
Some people disagree about how much LaLiga will make. Sport says it could be worth up to €40 million, while Marca says it will be worth €30 million per year.
This also means a change in how people work together. LaLiga will not only make more money, but they will also be working with a well-known company in the gaming world. In exchange, EA Sports will have their name on the Primera, Segunda, and Promises divisions and the eSports league.
In Europe, EA Sports is best known for making the popular football game FIFA. Recently, the company broke ties with football's governing body and will now call the game EA Sports FC.
