Aston Villa close in on loan deal for Sevilla defender Augustinsson
After an agreement with Sevilla, Ludwig Augustinsson will be Lucas Digne's backup at Aston Villa next season.
will play for
Aston Villaon loan with an option to buy. This deal was made with
Sevilla.
The move depends on the 28-year-old left-back getting a work permit, but since he plays regularly for Sweden at the international level, that shouldn't be a problem.
Augustinsson moved from
Werder Bremen
to Sevilla in August of last year. Even though he wasn't thought of as a first-choice player in Andalusia, Augustinsson played in 27 games as a back-up for the often-injured Marcos Acuna.
But only nine of those LaLiga games were as a starter, and Augustinsson's future in Seville was never certain because Julen Lopetegui often chose to play central defender
Karim Rekik
at left-back instead of Augustinsson.
Reports say the deal is worth a total of £3.8 million (€4.5 million), which includes the option to buy. Augustinsson is expected to be the backup to France international Lucas Digne. Augustinsson is the second player this year, after Diego Carlos, to move from
Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan
to Villa Park.
