Xavi: I'd sign Dembele's contract immediately

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez once again made it clear that he wants Ousmane Dembele to stay at Camp Nou.

Ahead of the European clash with Eintracht Frankfurt at the Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, for the

Europa League

quarter-finals,

Xavi

addressed the media as part of his pre-game press conference about

Ousmane Dembele

's contract situation.

"I hope he can stay with us,"

he told reporters.

"I have already said it and I have no problem repeating it again.

"He can be the best in the world in his position. The club is working for the present and the future.

"Ousmane is an important footballer and I hope he decides to stay. I'd sign his new contract immediately.

"I can only speak since I took charge and he is being exemplary in how he trains, his attitude, commitment, and his involvement.

"I don't know how he was before but I see him motivated, happy, and with a very winning character. It's not a surprise that he'd come to training on his day off. He's a great professional.”

Xavi also confirmed a meeting between

Barcelona

executive Mateu Alemany and Dembele's agent to restart negotiations over a new deal.

"It is a negotiation. We are also in talks with Ronald [Araujo], Gavi, Sergi Roberto, it is a process,"

he said.

"The club knows my priorities and we are working. Hopefully, Dembele can stay, with work he can be the best in his position.

"The club is working hard and I hope they decide to stay. Gavi, Araujo, Dembele... if we can have them next year we'll be a better team and squad."
