Fenerbahce deny rumors of Ozil not playing for missing wage

According to the Turkish media, the ex-Arsenal midfielder was refusing to feature but the club has denied the rumors.

Speculations of

Mesut Ozil

not playing due to missing wages have been angrily denied by

Fenerbahce

.

The ex-

Arsenal

midfielder has been out of action for weeks due to a back injury but the Turkish media suggested that the reason was him not getting paid during that time.

The reports have been denied by the club and the Super Lig Club rebuked them with a statement.

The statement reads:

"The news that Mesut Ozil did not play because his debts from the club were not paid have nothing to do with the facts.

"As we have often experienced, this kind of fake news that is created completely haphazardly without being confirmed by any official from our club is beyond our tolerance limit.

"Despite the heavy economic conditions at Fenerbahce, payments have been made on time until now."

The Turkish side are struggling with a lot of debt and the coronavirus pandemic has me it worse, which had them face many restrictions under the rules of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play.

However, this did not prevent them from acquiring the services of Ozil in 2021 as the midfielder was a free agent when his deal with the Gunners reached its end.

He started the season slowly, not meeting the target in his first 10 matches for Fenerbahce as he dealt with ankle ligament issues. However, in 2021-22 season, he found the back of the net seven times in 19 matches in Super Lig while having the captain’s armband.

Fenerbahce are sitting fourth on the table, 20 points adrift of the league leaders

Trabzonspor
